Making new frames and problem solving
After making two boards measuring 8 feet by 4 feet, I realised that the proportions were wrong, as I wanted them to reflect the proportions of an A4 sheet of paper. They felt far too narrow, so I decided to cut one of the boards in half and extend the structure, creating one large board measuring approximately 8 feet by 6 feet. This size will fit the space I have been allocated at Fisher Gate Point and should have a much stronger presence on the wall.
Now that the board has been assembled, it feels much larger in person than I had anticipated. Although I always wanted to work on a large scale, I have started to wonder whether I may have gone bigger than intended. However, I keep reminding myself that I will be exhibiting on a very large wall, and I do not want the work to become lost within the space.
There is a lot going on across the surface of the board at the moment, but because the final piece will be covered with textiles, I am not too concerned about how it currently looks. My main concern is the overall size and weight of the structure, and whether it may need additional reinforcement. Fortunately, Don has reassured me that the board should be strong enough, which has given me more confidence to move forward with the piece.
