Collaborative work

I also took part in a collaborative piece with Kate and Kai. They invited me to work alongside them on an abstract charcoal and ink drawing. Although the final outcome may not have been our strongest piece, it was the process that I enjoyed the most.

Working collaboratively allowed me to step away from my own practice for a while and respond to the energy and ideas of other people. I found this refreshing and it helped clear my head. Taking a break from my own work gave me the space to return to it with a fresh perspective and consider new possibilities.

What I found most interesting was that, although I have been creating abstract work throughout this project, I realised I was still holding back and not working as freely as I thought I was. This collaborative piece encouraged me to loosen up even more and trust the process rather than worrying about the outcome.

It also highlighted the importance of knowing when to stop. Looking at the finished piece, I think we may have overworked it, adding more marks than were needed. However, this in itself was a valuable lesson. Sometimes the greatest learning comes from simply playing, experimenting and discovering where the balance lies between adding to a piece and letting it breathe.
