More figurative drawing

I decided to create another figurative piece of Eva as a baby, but this time using oil pastels. My aim was to move away from realism and perfection and work in a more expressive way. Rather than focusing on smooth skin tones, I wanted to pick up on the warmer colours within the skin, such as pinks, peaches and burnt amber tones. I also wanted to allow more texture to show through the marks and embrace a looser approach to the image.

Unfortunately, the piece remains unfinished. At some point I would like to return to it and continue developing it. Looking back at the work, I feel some of the proportions are slightly off. Although my daughter did have very large eyes as a baby, they appear a little too large in relation to the rest of her face. This has highlighted the importance of paying closer attention to proportion, even when working in a more expressive style.

Despite these challenges, I feel the piece has been a useful experiment. It has encouraged me to step away from trying to create a perfect likeness and instead focus on colour, texture and feeling, which is something I would like to continue exploring in future work.
