Outcome of painting in reverse on perspex

The image above is one of my favourites from the collection. Using white paint as the background colour helps to lock in the vibrancy of the inks and acrylics and really makes the colours pop. The contrast between the white background and the layered colours creates a brightness and intensity that I find particularly appealing. I think this piece demonstrates how important the background colour can be in influencing the overall impact of the work. Because I am painting in reverse the background colour is actually my top layer.

The two images above and below show the same Perspex piece. In the top image, I placed the Perspex in front of a window to highlight the negative space. I really like the way the natural light shines through the transparent areas, creating a subtle glow. However, I feel that the colours appear much duller in the top image compared to the one below. The lower image has a greater vibrancy and better reflects the intensity of the colours in the piece.
