Researching sound frequencies
This video explores the idea of sound frequencies, focusing on 432 Hz and how it's different to the standard tuning of 440 Hz. It discusses how some people believe different frequencies can affect the body, emotions and overall sense of wellbeing. The video suggests that sound is not just something we hear, but something we physically experience, as vibration moving through us and the space around us.
This really connects with my own practice, as I am interested in how sound can influence feeling, mood and making. I am particularly drawn to 432 Hz music, especially Clair de Lune. I have two different versions of this piece, one tuned to 432 Hz and one that is not, and I can clearly feel the difference between them.
When I listen to the 432 Hz version, it feels softer, connected to something and more grounded. My body relaxes and my thoughts slow down. Having Clair de Lune on loop allows me to work in a calmer and more intuitive way. I feel like I go into my own world not even relising it until I come back around. The other version feels slightly quicker, more stimulating. I don't feel that same connection,
This awareness has become an important part of my process. Exploring frequency helps me understand how sensory experiences translate into visual outcomes, which is something I want to continue developing within my practice. I have started looking into synesthesia, a condition that activates more than two senses that only require one. I want to look into artists who have this condition, using it to their advantage.
