Criss Cross Abstract
Criss Cross Abstract
For this abstract painting, I used whatever acrylic paints I had access to at the time. I chose colours that I felt would work well together and looked closely at the order in which Swarez layered his colours, as his arrangements complemented one another. I was particularly drawn to the small areas of yellow that appeared between each colour.
I worked across a double-page spread in my sketchbook. I did not have a squeegee, so I used cardboard and other tools I made myself. I followed a similar pattern to the one Swarez uses, allowing the paint to move naturally across the surface. It was a very satisfying process watching the colours fuse and blend together.
As I continued, I began overlapping the colours and criss crossing the patterns, moving across the page only once so not to get the colours too murky. At times I was unsure of what I was doing, but I trusted the process and kept going. I am really glad I did not give up, as I was very pleased with the finished outcome once it had dried.
The final piece reminds me of being stuck in heavy traffic in the rain, where car lights reflect on the wet road and create those soft, slightly fuzzy, warped reflections.
