NYC #22 by Jeremy Mann is part of his cityscape series, where he paints rain-soaked urban streets and glowing lights with expressive, atmospheric brushwork. Mann’s work often captures the mood of a city at night, with reflections on wet pavement and diffuse light playing across surfaces, creating both clarity and blur in the same piece. His use of dark tones contrasted with bright highlights evokes the feeling of a rainy evening in places like New York or San Francisco, where the wet roads reflect streetlights and car lights in an almost painterly haze.
I chose NYC #22 because my own acrylic piece reminds me of a cityscape in the rain, with lights reflecting on wet ground. The atmospheric quality of Mann’s work, where colour and light convey mood as much as form, relates closely to the way I experienced my own painting, even though this was not intentional at the time, the criss-cross lines and strips of colour is where I see the relation.
