Professional Practice 1-6 Talks

Professional Practice Talk Talk 1 - Tom Hackett It was really interesting how Tom took us on a journey through his work. The first thing up on the screen was his CV, which started off as a list format and then spiralled on a journey of organised chaos that he navigated us through. I found Tom's work and journey really inspiring. Like the huge hand-knitted coloured net that covered the building above. "You have to go to the world.... The world won't go to you" I really like this quote above from Tom because as a working artist, you have to push hard and grow a thick skin to get your work out there. Along the way, you will hear a lot of no's. Tom is a successful artist, not just from his skill as a creator alone but because of his can do attitude and his likeable personality. An example of how Tom goes above and beyond was when he stayed awake on a small rowing boat for 24 hours. He collected water samples from along the river Severn in Worcester to then create this

Profession Practice- Talks with Tom

The guide to art galleries for emerging artists- I could approach a pub owner to ask if I can put it in his pub. Check backlit as they have something on. My work might fit what they are looking for. Art development- City arts might be a way for me to get employment opportunities, as I have experience working with children in youth groups, schools and adults with events. I will follow art agencies to keep up to date with opportunities for funding. I will contact Air Arts for opportunities to work with children in hospitals doing arts and crafts and I will need to update my DBS. Workshops and skill sharing- When I would work in a school doing model making I can adapt the media I use. For Example where I may work with wire for safety reasons  I could use straws instead. I would try and get funding for equipment, time and travel. Funding for outings, visits to galleries and museums will need funding. For this I would look to Council Grants and Arts project funding. I can use my experienc

Evaluation- Collection FMP

Evaluation   I am really pleased with managing to create an immersive viewing experience. There were many things I did not have the skills to do on setting out and I have asked for help and learnt. I feel that I have learnt so much. I can now make an audio track and I would like to use this more in my work. Making the structure of the booth, including measurements is not one of my strengths and I am pleased that I did this.  My problem solving and improvisation skills came forward and I was able to use what I had to hand. I was really pleased with the reaction from the people who used the booth. They understood the message I was wanting to get across and many commented on the inclusivity of the voices used which was something that was important to me. They also commented positively on how it made them feel saying it gave them goose bumps.  If I was going to change anything I would make my space bigger as it would have been darker like the effect in the store cupboard I tested in and

Completed audio track- Collection FMP

Completed audio track Here is a link to my finished track  Finished audio track We have filled the track with more people and I have more variety of language and age which was what I wanted with creating diversity. I am so proud of what I learned as I didn't have a clue with what to do in the beginning. I was able to tone down and diffuse the voices of those that were too loud. There are still slight gaps but it gives a respite to the listener so that is fine. I found the 3rd snippet ended too abruptly so we ended the track with a thought about myself and echoed and faded his voice out. I cannot wait to play it in my immersive experience.   Pictures of my hanging plaques in my booth
