Starting my landscape- Castle brief

 Sketching

I used my photo's I took of the overgrown gates to inspire me to create this vine sketch drawing.
I was going to leave the railings in that the vines were wrapped around, however I like the idea of the viewer to also be able to see through the negative space of the vines. This adds to that feel of trying to look around something or being nosey, peaking over the fence.


I will be having the vines as my first layer. I will be using the laser cutter like I did with the proto type. I won't be cutting each layer by hand like I did with the 1st test piece as I will be doing alot of intricate detail. When the 1st layer is cut by hand, you will then sketch the 2nd layer in the area you can see. I now need to work out how I am going to build the scene layer by layer. I will try using acetate as its clear.

Professional Practice Talk Talk 1 - Tom Hackett It was really interesting how Tom took us on a journey through his work. The first thing up on the screen was his CV, which started off as a list format and then spiralled on a journey of organised chaos that he navigated us through. I found Tom's work and journey really inspiring. Like the huge hand-knitted coloured net that covered the building above. "You have to go to the world.... The world won't go to you" I really like this quote above from Tom because as a working artist, you have to push hard and grow a thick skin to get your work out there. Testing the lighting on test paper cut outs- Castle brief

 This link will take you to a video of the  test piece  and an audio annotation. Image 1- I covered the light source with white card Image 2- I covered the light source with white paper Image 3 has just the original clear plastic covering the light source I mentioned in my video that I prefer the second image, covering the light source with paper. However, under further inspection, I prefer first image, covered with card because the background looks smoother.  In the video footage you can see the ripple effect from the lighting. this is something I thought I would like but I think it is distracting and doesn't help with the illusion I am trying to create.

1st test piece of paper cutting- Castle brief

 This link will take you to the process of my  paper cutting  for the lightbox. I am going to move forward with laser cutting my layers as it will cut the layers out alot cleaner and quicker than me. I need to figure out how I will sketch up the different layers. I'm not sure how I will line up all the layers. Maybe I can use tracing paper.
