Ed Ruscha- The Tension of words and Images 

Ed Ruscha started his career in the late 1950's at an advertising agency. He is regarded as one of the most supreme artists to this day. Ruscha talks about the power of text and how he layered images of cityscapes with words and phrases from everyday language to communicate a particular urban experience. Ruscha was the artist who created the renowned 20th century Hollywood logo.

Barbara Kruger is know for her large scale images overlaid with text, often quotes from other famous people. In my own work I will be using thoughts from other people as well as my own

It is crazy that I have come across this artist Chris Kenny after completing my wall of thoughts, as the layout and idea of having random pieces of text is what I had done. I'm happy to have found this particular work as it has motivated and inspired me to continue with my method. I really like the way he has the text strips sitting on the end of the pins as it has created shadow behind it. This gives the pieces great depth.

I like how Jo has worked with paper changing its form a deconstruction reconstruction. She not only uses the materials of the book, she also uses the messages within the book to construct a new message. I like how she has woven her work to convey the history.

  Art vs Design Ballpoint pen and Paintbrush Art is something that I believe doesn't need a purpose to exist whereas design needs a purpose to function. The ballpoint pen on the left is designed for the purpose of writing. Whereas the paintbrush is for creating art. The brush itself did have to be designed for a function but what it's made for doesn't have a purpose, which is ok .  Calligraphy is the art of writing letters with a paintbrush whereas a ballpoint pen is also to write letters but in a simple non-artistic way. Authorship Auerbach and  Robert Stadler This drawing by Auerbach interests me due to its expressive movements and marks. It reminds me of an 80s video by the pop group Aha ‘Take on Me’. Professional Practice Talk Talk 1 - Tom Hackett It was really interesting how Tom took us on a journey through his work. The first thing up on the screen was his CV, which started off as a list format and then spiralled on a journey of organised chaos that he navigated us through. I found Tom's work and journey really inspiring. Like the huge hand-knitted coloured net that covered the building above. "You have to go to the world.... The world won't go to you" I really like this quote above from Tom because as a working artist, you have to push hard and grow a thick skin to get your work out there. Along the way, you will hear a lot of no's. Tom is a successful artist, not just from his skill as a creator alone but because of his can do attitude and his likeable personality. An example of how Tom goes above and beyond was when he stayed awake on a small rowing boat for 24 hours. He collected water samples from along the river Severn in Worcester to then create this

Final Development for Portrait Project 'Torn Emotions'

Final video of Torn Emotions for Portrait   I decided to change the music for my short video using Artist Cleo Sol- Myself. I feel that the lyrics work with this piece giving the viewer hope if you are going through a troubling time. I was unfortunate on this day of recording to not have a beautiful sunny day so I created my own light in the background to recreate a sunny day as I wanted to get that sun ray effect on the video. I attached an A3 piece of acetate to the back of my piece and then I further stitched on top to connect my images all together. This was to correct where I removed the stitching on acetate I didn't like.
