Exploring the twisty bends in the roads bike trip Traces of Landscape

Translating the Twisties

'Twisties' are what the motorists call the bends and sharp turns of the roads. I want to explore my journey across Europe for the project 'Traces of Landscape'.

Using acrylic paint, I put on some energetic music that excited me, similar to how I felt on the back of my partner's Harley Davidson, Fat Bob motorbike and I just started painting an abstract piece. My motion of painting was quick and fluid. I wanted to create texture so I allowed the paint to clog up on my page. It weirdly reminds me of a messed up hose pipe spraying with water.

Whilst looking back through my photos, I realised I only had a few images of the twisty roads we rode down as I wasn't able to capture the sharp bends and turns in the roads other than the Italian Stelvio pass. Most of my photos were of the scenic views.

Below is something I wanted to create, to show the energetic, fast twists and turns of the roads as we rode through in the Alps. They are just snaps from a video whilst we were riding. It turned out okay but I feel it worked much better in my head.

Below is a quick transfer of my acrylic painting above. I thought it would pick up well because there was a lot of texture.
