Studio Practice Wire sculpture

 Wire sculpture

Using my line drawings as inspiration I wanted to create a Gerbera flower I drew as it reminds me of my late Nana. However, this flower head was too time-consuming to make so I made a poppy head.

To help me make consistent circular shapes, I used tools. For the disk part of the flower, I bent the wire around a marker pen and for the flower petals, I bent the wire around my water bottle. I chose to use different shades of paper to cover the wire sculpture to create tone and texture. An off-white shade for the disk part and beige for the petals as I didn't want my poppy to appear flat when covering the wire in paper. Once I connected the disk part and the petals together, I could then manipulate the petals, bending and twisting them into a more realistic form. I really enjoyed this part. It was really interesting to see everybody's work come together as a collection.
