Nottingham castle visit Portrait project
Unidentified Sitter
We revisited Nottingham Castle today to look at some unknown portraits. There were a couple I liked but one in particular that stood out for me by Harold Knight called the 'Girl in the White Dress'. It was her expression that drew me in. She just looked so unhappy, her lip wasn't turned up, it was just the micro details in her face & eyes that let me believe it.
In response to this painting, I want to know what is wrong with her, to me. She seems she doesn't want to be there. All sorts of stories could be made up to imagine what she's looking at. It could be as simple as, oh, another rainy day or something more sinister like she is feeling vulnerable to something that maybe about to happen.
We were instructed to pick a painting from all the displayed portraits and create a response. Our responses will be exhibited in the castle beneath the portrait we picked.
