Extruded smaller clay pieces after firing Traces of Landscape

Smalls All Fired Up

Once I got my extruded clay pieces out of the kiln, I started to arrange the small extruded pieces into a desirable pattern so they looked like one whole piece. As I had many separate pieces.

I unfortunately, had a few pieces that broke whilst they were in the Kiln. Luckily this enabled me to use these pieces as tests to explore with.

I cut a tile of clay, pressed the broken pieces into it and vacuum formed some acrylic on top. Once removing the broken pieces I really liked the mark making impressions left in the clay. I could possibly use this for printing a repeat pattern. Below I poured some plaster into my vacuum form.

I'm really happy with how these turn out I cast some harsh white light onto the plaster and it looks like a derelict landscape in space. I recorded it whilst it span around on a throwing wheel. It was mesmerising to watch in slow motion as the warping shadows grew and shrank around the piece. I added some peaceful music to draw you in. It looked like something out of this world, I'm really happy with it.

This was originally just a test piece but it turned out to be really successful.
